One of Arizona softball’s greatest outfielders, he was a standout performer in the Phoenix Major Softball League, ranking high in fielding, hitting and stolen bases. His great speed afoot and strong, accurate throwing arm helped his teams win five regional championships and led to competition in national tournaments in Cleveland; Salt Lake City; Greeley, Colo; and two in Phoenix. Equally adept at infield positions, his versatility contributed to the 1947 national championship won by Phoenix’ Farm Fresh Markets. With a lifetime batting average of .295, he was selected to the Art Van Haren All-time All-star Arizona Softball Team.
