George Pear

A superlative softball player, skilled as a catcher, infielder and outfielder and a feared batter, he played in five national tournaments with Phoenix teams. His Phoenix major league career saw service with Travis Cafe, Milt Coggins Sporting Goods, Delaware Punch and Phalanx Fraternity. His service to softball included park announcer at Phoenix Softball Park and manager of both men’s and women’s teams. As manager of young teams, he started the careers of the following who later became All-Americans and members of Arizona Softball Hall of Fame – Charlotte “Skipper” Armstrong, Phyllis Donald Roberts, Jessie Glasscock and Virginia Dobson Bickle.
