Bernard "JoJo" Jones

One of Arizona’s all-time greats at third base, this two-time All- American was a power hitter who twice led the Phoenix Major League in home runs and runs batted in. Proficient also as a catcher and outfielder, he starred for several state championship teams and competed in numerous national tournaments during a 20-year career with teams representing Adams Hotel, Funk Jewels, Marstons, Delaware Punch, O. S. Stapley, Lettuce Kings and Phoenix Auto. He was the first player of record to hit three out-of-the-park home runs in a single game in the Phoenix Major League - June 1941. He was named Most Valuable Player as his Coast Guard team won the U.S. Military championship in 1943. He later served as one of Arizona’s leading softball umpires for 11 years and spent two seasons as manager of the nationally prominent Holsum Bakery Maids women’s softball team.
