One of Arizona’s finest umpires, he worked five national championship tournaments and umpired 10 years in the Men’s Major League in Phoenix. He joined Art Van Haren in forming the Arizona Umpires Association, serving as president or vice president several times. He helped start the first umpiring school in Arizona, helping others become competent umpires for the betterment of the sport. He also had a fine record as a player, beginning in 1929, both as a pitcher and at other positions
