A staunch supporter of Arizona softball and a man whose columns and news stories chronicled the actions on the field and contributed to earning for Phoenix the title of Softball Capital of the World, his interest in Arizona softball covers four decades. His coverage of the 1974 International Softball Congress World Tournament in Sun City contributed to its phenomenal success. Joining the Arizona Republic in 1943, he was the newspaper’s softball writer until named sports editor in 1954. His column continued to record worthy softball activities and Republic sports pages continued excellent coverage at his direction.
